Zoo again? Really?

Last time I blogged about the zoo I said I hadn't planned on sharing zoo pictures again because the zoo doesn't change much, but actually there is now something new at our zoo. Two very cute new somethings, to be more precise:


These tiger cubs are about two and a half months old now. We had seen them a couple times before, when they were even smaller, but this was the first time we had the camera along. They were born at our zoo, and for some reason instinct didn't kick with their still-adolescent mother. She was neglecting them, so the cubs were moved to their own cage where they are now fed by the zookeepers.


On this trip Justin and I were at the zoo with the MOMS Club. My friend Pascale snapped this picture of us looking at the rhinos.

Well, hello, Mr. Giraffe!


It seemed like everything at the zoo had had a baby since the last time we were there. Just a couple of the many babies we saw...

We were very excited to see a joey jump into his mother's pouch. If you look closely you can see his legs still sticking out in this picture.


This vulture gave me just about the most intense stare I've ever been given by a wild animal. I must have looked like I was about to drop (I had, after all, been alternating between chasing and dragging a toddler through the zoo for about an hour and a half at this point!).


We were about to leave when we realized it was almost time for the baby tigers to get their lunch. So we decided to wait on this bench, where we could watch some ducks and geese. Justin was hamming it up for the camera. Usually he has no reaction to being told to smile for the camera, but this time he gave me all kinds of cute and silly grins on command.





I like this one because it captures the dimple he gets high up on his cheek when he smiles. :)


You can see that it is a bit difficult for the zookeeper to get into the baby tiger enclosure without the baby tigers getting out!

She told us that they are trying to find another zoo that wants to take the tigers, but they aren't having any luck so far, so the Metro Richmond Zoo may be their permanent home.
