I just consulted my "graduate studies handbook" and discovered I was a little off in my description of the timing. Here's exactly how things need to play out in order for me to completely finish up this fall:
August 15 Deadline for submission of penultimate draft
October 1 Deadline for responses from all three readers to me
October 15 Deadline for submission of revised dissertation
November 1 Deadline for report from department chair to the associate dean of successfully completed oral defense
November 15 Deadline for submission of final copies of dissertation to the associate dean's office
So, the defense actually has to be completed in October, and I should be all done by November 15.
