Grandparents Galore

Two weekends ago Tim's parents came for a visit. In addition to playtime with Justin, Tim's dad also helped him with some projects related to the house.

Here they are getting ready to replace a couple of rotted boards in the deck:

One of their finished (but yet unstained) products:

They also fixed a piece of siding that had a hole in it:

The rest of us played in the yard while they worked...

...including a renewal of the grass-pulling game Justin had invented a couple weeks earlier.

While the McNeel grandparents were here I also took the opportunity to go out to some yard sales (all by myself!) on Saturday morning. I was very proud of myself for getting these three items for $17 total:

The following weekend my parents came for a visit. As usual, they watched Justin for me all day Friday so I could get some extra dissertation time in. On Saturday morning we all went to the zoo together.

Here is Justin with my parents looking at the prairie dogs:

And here are the prairie dogs:

Here they are in front of the rhinos...

...and here are the rhinos:

I think I've mentioned on the blog before that one of the fun things about our zoo is the opportunity to feed the giraffes:

There are also some farm-type animals that you can feed, as well as some long tubes you can drop food into for the camels. Justin is still a little too scared to feed the animals directly, but he enjoyed feeding the camels.

Some of the animals at the zoo appeared to be molting for the summer.

Justin looking at monkeys:

And bears:

There are some peacocks that roam freely at the zoo, and this one put on a show for us:

Here are some of the other animals we saw...

Orangutan:

Tigers:

The aptly-named bighorn sheep:

Alligator:

A crane and three tortoises playing follow the leader. Can anyone who was there remind me what kind of crane this is?

Fun times with all the grandparents!

i like that the tortoises are walking in size order, from smallest to biggest. It looks like you have a really nice zoo! And awesome grandparents for Justin, too! Those are some handy men fixing stuff around the house.
