For the last two weeks Justin has been taking swim lessons at Aqua-Tots Swim School. He did the "8 day fast track" which gives the kids a jump start on learning to swim by having a half hour lesson Monday through Thursday for two weeks.
We have been amazed by this program. Justin started out scared of the water, and cried through his first two lessons. But by the end he was asking if he could go to his swim lessons every day, and telling me he definitely wanted to sign up for more lessons when the fast track is over.
The facility has a pool designed for kids swim lessons (4 feet deep everywhere, with a ledge around the edge for the kids to sit on). There is a seating area where family can watch through glass.
Here is Justin stopping by the otter mascot for a picture:
Justin was in a class with three other boys.
Here he is floating all by himself. This is pretty amazing, because two weeks ago he wouldn't even get in this position in the water with someone holding him up.
He has also jumped into the pool by himself and, with the instructor's help, retrieved a toy off the bottom of the pool. They also worked on kicking, reaching for the side of the pool, and rolling over in the water to get their faces above water.
Most days Sam accompanied me to watch the lessons.
Here is a video:
The fast track is over. Justin really wants to continue, which makes sense since he can't actually swim across the pool yet, so we will be signing him up for ongoing lessons, probably twice a week.

Justin, it was great seeing you swim! You were very brave to get in the water, and now you can see that you are tougher than the water. -- Cousin Ann
