Last week we stayed at Bear Creek Lake State Park. This park is only about an hour west of Richmond. It was nice to have such a short drive to a vacation. My parents joined us there for the week, so we rented a 3 bedroom cabin.
The cabin was very nice-- air conditioned, two full bathrooms, lots of closet space, full kitchen, etc.
Here's Sam enjoying some corn the first evening.
After dinner the first evening we went to a campfire program. A volunteer naturalist talked about the animals that live in the park. Justin is showing off a (real) opossum hide...
...and some (fake) bear poop.
After the program they provided marshmallows for roasting.
More to come on the rest of our vacation...

Looks like a great place to vacation! Roasted marshmellows are good, but your children would not have a complete education without making s'mores! -- Cousin Ann, S'more Adorer
Ann: Oh, just wait a couple days and you'll see s'more.
