Lost River: post 7

Saturday afternoon we went out on a compass trail hike. You start at a post on the side of the road and the paper from the park office tells you the compass bearing and distance (in feet) to the next post. Before you start you are supposed to pace off how many steps it takes you, personally, to go a certain number of feet; then you do the math so you know about how many steps away the next post should be.

Here are Patty and Audrey after we found post 4. I think there were 9 total.

Going over terrain like this sure made it hard to keep one's steps a normal length for estimating the distance! We usually came up a little short, but close enough that we were able to see the post ahead of us.


The second half of the trail got more difficult, so that you had to take two or three turns before finding the post. Here we are at the next to last post, trying to figure out how to find the last one. I think Justin thought we were about to go the wrong way! ;)



That evening we had a cookout in one of the picnic areas. All the "kids" had time to swing before it was time to eat.

We like to call this next one, "how many adults does it take to cook burgers?" We had some charcoal issues and it took a bit of time to get the meat cooked.


But the great grillers succeeded eventually and we were able to eat dinner and move on to s'mores. Yum!
